PBWC Pacesetter Award
The Top 25 Companies for Businesswomen

PBWC is pleased to announce the first annual PBWC Pacesetter Award in our fourteen year history. PBWC has worked to support the advancement of women in the workplace. With the inauguration of the Pacesetter Award, we will honor those Bay Area companies that embody the mission of our organization and that work to advance women on an ongoing basis.

The awards will be presented May 1, 2003 at the PBWC Keynote Luncheon in San Jose when State Senator Jackie Speier will honor those San Francisco Bay Area companies that exemplify our mission.

What Does It Take to Be a Top 25 Company?

The Pacesetter Award winners are listed below in ranked order. Here is the criteria used in ranking each company and determining this year's winners:

Percentage of women executives defined as vice president or equivalent and above
Percentage of women corporate officers
Percentage of women directors on the board
Percentage of women employees
Development and continuing support of programs that benefit women in the workplace

The initial list of largest, publicly-held employers in nine Bay Area counties (Napa, Sonoma, Marin, San Francisco, Contra Costa, Alameda, San Mateo, Santa Clara, and Santa Cruz) was derived from the State of California Employment Development Department data and the San Francisco Business Times Book of Lists. State Farm is a mutually held company.
4.	The percentage of women corporate officers' data was benchmarked against the 2002 Catalyst Census, a report available from Catalyst, Inc., a nonprofit research and advisory organization.
